Alex Morgan goes Steph Curry with goal celebration

The USWNT crushed Thailand 13-0 behind Alex Morgan's five goals.

Three different players scored the four goals, and veterans and newcomers alike chipped in.

The 13 goals surpassed the record set by Germany during the 2007 World Cup, when they beat Argentina 11-0.

The U.S. picked up right where it left off in the first half after the break, scoring four goals in just over 10 minutes.

After leading 3-0 at halftime, the USWNT unleashed a dizzying barrage of 10 second-half goals on their overmatched opponents, winning by an incredible 13-0 scoreline.

"Honestly, you're going up against a side that is the first time in the World Cup, they're just happy to be there..."

Thailand, ranked No. 34 in the world, was clearly outmatched even though the team has shown progress on the world stage.

"I said in the pre-game yes you want to score goals, yes you want to make a mark with the goal difference...there's a way to do it and that's the way for me".

One of those players was Miranda Nild, and American-born Thailand forward who plays at Morgan's alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley.

"She's a quality player and to stay encouraged through this tournament, because she's living out a dream that most girls and women don't get to".

"When you're playing in a World Cup, every single goal may count at the end of the day", Morgan said.

"They were disappointed of course, they meant to make an impression in this first match and they were disappointed", coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian said. On Tuesday night, in front of a pro-American crowd of 18,591, the USA won 13-0 against Thailand. She still has two games to showcase herself, to get some goals. "Yes they are athletes and they will be resilient".

The World Cup comes at a time that female players across the globe are seeking better treatment and pay.

It came close to the team's biggest rout ever. They failed to win the SheBelieves Cup on home soil in March, but have won their last six matches.

The U.S. will next face Chile on Sunday, while Thailand will be up against Sweden. The two national teams have only faced off once before, resulting in a 9-0 win for the 2016. For comparison, the US had 39 attempts. Alyssa Naeher has since replaced Solo, who was dismissed from the team.
