Elon Musk tells Tesla shareholders there is "decent shot" at record quarter

Elon Musk tells Tesla shareholders there is

Musk highlighted that most electric vehicles which have been launched recently still can't surpass the range of Tesla's 2012 Model S, and claimed that Tesla should soon offer vehicles capable of traveling for 400 miles on a single charge.

Tesla shares fell by almost 3% early Wednesday after CEO Elon Musk addressed underlying vehicle demand at the company's shareholder meeting the evening prior.

"I wanted to clear, there is not a demand problem, okay?"

Musk also says battery production was the key to vehicle production. "If not, it's going to be very close".

Deliveries fell 31 percent in the first quarter, but Musk echoed his forecast from last month that the company was on track to hit record deliveries in the second quarter.

Despite the expansions overseas that have characterised the start of 2019, Musk also pointed out that the 90 per cent of new orders the company is taking in this quarter are from "non-reservation holders, so these are new customers".

Tesla's stock has plunged 35% this year, setting the name up for its worst annual performance since its 2010 initial public offering.

"We're actually doing well and we've got a decent shot at a record quarter on every level".

Among the anecdotes revealed during Musk's speech or in response to questions from investors, we heard that Tesla plans for the Model Y crossover to be "vegan" and free of animal products like leather, even though making a heated steering wheel without it has been tough. "There is absolutely not", Musk said.
