Joey Logano holds off the field to win the FireKeepers Casino 400

He and Kurt Busch were trailing eventual victor Joey Logano - and making progress in a two-car draft.

Despite having damage on his No. 1 Monster Energy Chevrolet Camaro from brushing the wall earlier in the race, Busch was able to get past Truex for second in the overtime. I was going to push him straight through (Logano).

Joey Logano's victory at MI on Monday gave Team Penske its fifth Cup win of the season.

With Martin Truex, Jr. beside him and the Busch brothers behind him, Logano got a great start, shot out to the lead and held off Kurt Busch at the finish line by two vehicle lengths for his 23rd career victory.

Who Had a Bad Day: Clint Bowyer, last year's June race victor, showed pace during the entire weekend by finishing in the top five in both practice sessions and qualified fifth.

"We just did the best we could with what we had", Busch said. We had dinner on Thursday night, all the drivers with Edsel Ford who invited all of us up to Henry Ford's original estate.

Joe Gibbs Racing has nine Cup wins this year and put two cars in the top five at Michigan: Truex and Kyle Busch.

"We got enough stage points today that I was like, 'hell with it, we don't need to get anything but the win'".

Logano restarted the final stage with the lead but was quickly passed by Kevin Harvick.

Logano clearly had the best auto, as he led for 163 of the race's 203 laps. Busch is second, Truex is sixth, and Denny Hamlin is seventh for Gibbs. "That first pit stall is really good".

Dillon held on at the end of 120 laps for the stage victory, his first of the season. He came out of the pits a lap down. His day worsened by lap 40 when he was forced to pit for a loose wheel. At the lap 20 competition caution, Logano remained in front.

"Well, I was able to see it right in front of me", Joey Logano referred to his front row restarting position in the media center after the win. Austin Dillon played his cards correctly and took the green and white checkered flag.

The race was scheduled for 200 laps and 400 miles. The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Corrigan Oil 200 is scheduled August 10 and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Consumers Energy 400 is August 11. Grandstand tickets start at $39 for the Consumers Energy 400 on August 11. With rain moving the race to Monday evening, the drivers were provided with a "green" race track which provided dicey racing throughout the pack. Kids will also have access to pre-race ceremonies, including driver introductions.

NASCAR's Cup Series will try again to hold its race at Michigan International Speedway after rain forced a postponement over the weekend. It has been the love of NASCAR racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike for 50 years.
