Spice Girls to become superheroes in new animated film

In news that will inspire many a "zigazig ahh" around the globe, Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria confirmed on Wednesday, June 12 that an animated Spice Girls movie is in active development. For those of us that can't swing the airfare to see our favorite '90s queens on stage, fear not, because The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the animated movie is happening, and all five Spice Girls are "very involved". Last year, word came out that the Spice Girls were developing an animated super hero movie, but there's no mention of super powers in this new THR piece, so it's unclear if this is the same project or if the premise has been tweaked since then. The film will feature the voices of all five members of the original band and a plot in which the quintet become superheroes.

The Spice Girls, formed in 1994, have been back in the spotlight in recent years.

It will apparently also include some new songs. It will be produced by Simon Fuller and written by Karen McCullah and Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith (Legally Blonde). The iconic girl group rose to global stardom with the released of their debut single "Wannabe" in 1996 and are now the best selling girl group worldwide with over 85 million records sold.

The Spice Girls (minus Victoria) are now nearing the end of their reunion tour which has seen them complete dates around the UK.
