Spotify debuts new Your Daily Drive feature in the US

"It combines music you love with relevant, timely world updates from reputable sources -- all put together in a seamless and unified listening experience".

Spotify has just revealed a brand new feature that will be available to all its users in the United States while driving their cars - Your Daily Drive.

Not that this is necessarily a surprise, as Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has been using public comments to channel this direction - that the company's future lies beyond simply streaming music - for a few years now.

Now when users are in Your Library, Music and Podcasts tabs will appear at the top of the screen.

The new Podcasts tab will allow users to manage their podcasts in three sections: Episodes, Downloads, and Shows.

Additionally, the Episodes subsection under the Podcast tab has been created to display shows you've already started listening to first, making it easier to resume where you left off, followed by quick access to the newest episodes of each podcast just below that. The Music section's categories are self-explanatory - Playlists, Artists, and Albums.

Rolling Stone describes the new playlist as a kind of leveling-up of Spotify, one more indication of its expansion from a mere streaming service to something more like an "all-inclusive audio platform".

Of course, entire albums that you've liked will also show up in this list, so it's probably best to listen to the Liked Songs playlist in Shuffle play mode. If you are offline, it will prioritize your downloaded tracks or podcasts. As a podcast listener, I like the idea of having my followed shows separate from my music.
