Amazon Take On SpaceX With 3000+ Internet Satellites

Amazon submitted its application with the FCC for Project Kuiper on July 4.

The satellite network will offer more reliable access and broadband-speed connectivity to numerous existing 3.8 billion people globally, and 21.3 million Americans that don't now enjoy any access to ground-based broadband, Amazon claims in the new filing.

Amazon wants the regulatory body to grant permission for the online retailer and cloud service giant to "launch and operate a non-geostationary satellite orbit system using Ka-band frequencies".

If approved, Amazon's satellites will be deployed at three different altitudes, 784 satellites at a height of 367 miles, 1,296 more at 379 miles, and 1,156 at 391 miles from Earth's surface.

Amazon didn't specify a timeline of events for putting the satellites into space. At the time, an Amazon representative described the project as "a new initiative to launch a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world". It will really help those in undeserved parts of the United States get up to speed in the digital age, which of course, will only help to connect people to Amazons wealth of products and services for sale.

Project Kuiper is one of the most ambitious space programs in history. Amazon is asking the FCC if it will waive the requirement to provide service to the entire U.S. and all territories - particularly Alaska, which is out of range of the intended satellite cluster orbit paths.

Amazon is pressing ahead with its plans to bring global blanket broadband internet coverage delivered from space.

According to Kuiper Systems, the satellite system would take advantage of the ground-based infrastructure that has already been created for Amazon Web Services. Earlier this year, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that Starlink could earn $30 billion or more in revenues annually. SpaceX has already launched its first batch of satellites in low Earth orbit for its Starlink broadband constellation.
