BBC Report: UK Labour Awash with Anti-Jewish "Hatred and Acrimony"

BBC Report: UK Labour Awash with Anti-Jewish

Watson said he deplored the way in which the leadership had responded to claims from whistleblowers that attempts to deal with the problem had been undermined by senior figures in the party. In 2015 he made a documentary, also for Panorama, which was condemned by the party at the time as being a "hatchet job" on Jeremy Corbyn.

In a March 2018 email, Milne called to investigate the party's review process regarding anti-Semitic complaints, telling Labour's then-head of disputes, Sam Matthews, that the proceedings were tainted by politics.

"But it does seem to me that there is obviously some participation in these disciplinary cases from the leader's office, which they are responsible for dealing with the rebuilding of trust in the Jewish community".

Former Labour MP Chris Leslie, who now stands as an Independent, also said: "Can't be clearer than this - Panorama reveals Corbyn was on the email thread when Jennie tried to intervene in the NCC process!"

"Something's going wrong and we're muddling up political disputes with racism", he reportedly wrote.

British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn's office interfered in independent party discipline processes aimed at rooting out anti-Semitism, the BBC said on Wednesday, a claim that the Labour Party sharply rejected. - What the BBC didn't report is that the communications chief had been asked his opinion on a case of a Jewish Labour member, with a Holocaust survivor parent who was yet being accused of antisemitism.

And he said he and the shadow cabinet had been denied access to information on the scale of the problem and the party's official response to an investigation by the equalities watchdog into how Labour handles allegations of antisemitism.

"Labour is taking decisive action against anti-Semitism, doubling the number of staff dedicated to dealing with complaints and cases".

He said: "The programme adheres to the BBC's editorial guidelines".

"This throws into doubt their credibility as sources.

We've got to agree that the Labour party will never again use gagging orders to try and stop people expressing their deeply held concerns about racism in our own ranks". "The Labour Party at all levels is implacably opposed to antisemitism and is determined to root out this social cancer from our movement and society".

"The Panorama programme was not a fair or balanced investigation".

Labour described the programme as "seriously inaccurate" and "politically one-sided".

Statements made by the former officials, said the BBC, included accusations that "the leader's office was "angry and obstructive" when it came to the issue; officials brought in by the party's general secretary, Jennie Formby, "overruled" some of their disciplinary decisions and "downgraded" punishments to a 'slap on the wrist;' and, Seumas Milne, one of Corbyn's closest aides, laughed when advised by a long-serving party official about what Corbyn should do to tackle anti-Semitism in the party". And Panorama distorted and manipulated the truth and misrepresented evidence to present a biased and selective account. "What we have got is ex-staff making accusations against existing staff and those existing staff have challenged those complaints, so it does need an objective look at".

Labour members have even been arrested on suspicion of racial hatred and the party now faces a full official inquiry for racism by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

"Despite claims made in the programme, Labour is taking decisive action against anti-Semitism".

Jewish MPs - particularly women - have been subjected to the most horrendous abuse and awful, violent threats, even being told they don't have human blood.

"The account was briefly hacked".
