Dharmasena to officiate in Lord's final

A Tweet shared by ESPNcricinfo revealed the match officials whom will oversee the final between New Zealand and England.

Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena has been appointed to stand in the World Cup final between England and New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday despite finding himself involved in a controversial incident with home batsman Jason Roy. Dar had previously officiated in two World Cup finals (2007 and 2011) and was awarded ICC umpire of the year for three consecutive years (2009, 2010 and 2011). He was fined 30% of the match fee.

The stump microphone heard Roy calling the situation "f***ing embarrassing", and there were more than just a few harsh words spouted by the angry Englishman as social media also erupted at how the umpire could make such a poor decision.

An ICC statement read: "England batsman Jason Roy has been fined for breaching Level One of the ICC Code of Conduct during England's eight-wicket win over Australia on Thursday".

Meanwhile, the World Cup was hailed as a huge opportunity for the growth of Cricket in its birthplace but the jury is still out on whether the tournament will inspire a new generation of fans. Roy admitted his offence and thus there would be no hearing taking place.

"Two demerit points have been added to his disciplinary record".

But Cowan, speaking on ABC Grandstand's World Cup podcast, said his behaviour was an "absolute disgrace".

Interestingly, Aleem Dar has been made the fourth umpire in the final despite the grave error by Dharmasena.

While the decision was quite obviously the incorrect one, Cowan said that Roy had no right to stand his ground after Dharmasena had raised his finger.

Dharmasena will be joined by Marais Erasmus, who was also alongside him in Thursday's semi-final.
