But former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin, who is now a prominent pundit, thinks there is plenty of reasons to be positive for Lampard's long-term future because of the money that will be available to him in the summer of 2020, when the club's FIFA-imposed transfer embargo is lifted.

"We wanted to win the game, but it's not about that".

Chelsea appointed Lampard as their new manager earlier this month, creating a real buzz around Stamford Bridge. "It's about individuals getting fit and pushing themselves to the limit". We have high standards and we have brought that in.

"We have to because we want fitness and intensity in our game".

Chelsea will be in action in Dublin again on Saturday afternoon, when they play St Patrick's.

"This game was very early but the other players are back other than the injured boys and Pulisic is not with us yet but you will see some of them at the weekend", Lampard added.
