Meteor showers and black moon: Sky watchers, this is your lucky week

It is visible in some parts of the northern hemisphere up until the medium latitudes, although the rate of shooting stars will appear less from these areas, according to the American Meteor Society (AMS).

Meanwhile, the alpha Capricornids, which are active from July 3 to August 15, are less strong, rarely bringing more than five meteors per hour, but the AMS describes them as "bright fireballs".

As for the alpha Capricornids, these showers are described as weak ones that "rarely produce in excess of five shower members per hour". Experts say the best time to go stargazing will be just after midnight. Two meteor showers are expected to soar across the sky.

EarthSky notes that the Delta Aquariid shower is active every year from about July 12 to August 23. While the Delta Aquariids are best seen from south of the equator, these ones are seen equally well from either side.

According to Earthsky.org, if you watch for showers in the hours before dawn, distance yourself from bright light pollution if you live in or near a city and let your eyes adjust to the dark (it can take up to 45 minutes to adjust), you can maximize your meteor shower-watching experience. On the nights of August 12 and 13, the moon will be 94% full.
