Microsoft Teams may have only been around for two years, but the group-chat platform is already larger than one of its main competitors.

Perhaps it's no surprise, then, that Microsoft has just declared that Teams has over 13 million daily users, which beats out Slack's 10 million figure.

I suppose it's possible that Slack could have picked up three million users over the past five months although given its growth curve over the past several years, it seems unlikely.

"Even adding Microsoft and Slack's team collaboration user numbers together, it indicates most companies are still not using collaboration software yet", Kurtzman noted. For IT pros, Microsoft noted that Teams is now available to Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus subscribers, which was announced last month. Enterprise businesses that use the Office 365 suite prefer using Teams.

Shure is pairing up with Microsoft to offer audio solutions for its cloud-based communications hub Microsoft Teams. Possibly, but new priority notifications that ping your phone every two minutes for up to 20 minutes may not be especially welcomed.

A new Time Clock feature will allow employees to clock in and out of work shifts and break from their mobile app. Support for geo-fencing means that an employee may be required to be at a designated location before clocking in.

Second, users can now send an announcement to teams and post a single message across multiple channels. The audio company has joined the Microsoft Teams Certification program, and is now working to achieve certification of a select portfolio of its networked systems products. Managers can also now message all staff with a specific role - such as all cashiers in a store or nurses at a hospital - at once using an @mention relating to the job role.

Microsoft - which reportedly considered a multi-billion-dollar acquisition bid for Slack before developing its own tool - has thrown significant resources behind Teams and has quickly built out new features to cater to a wide range of uses.

Teams will be in the spotlight at the annual Inspire partner conference in Las Vegas next week.

Gavriella Schuster, the executive in charge of Microsoft's partner program, at a previous partner conference. Indeed, partners are seeing increased interest in Teams.

In addition, Microsoft is opening Teams integration with partnering contact center companies, including "Five9, Genesys, NICE inContact" and others.
