North Korea makes Kim Jong Un head of state

The Trump administration would support lifting United Nations restrictions on North Korean coal and textiles exports as part of a deal to break their stalemate in nuclear talks, Yonhap reported yesterday, citing an unidentified person close to the White House.

She added that based on her team's understanding of the media and what Kim has said, . the North Korean leader believes the U.S.is looking for regime change, . but not through military action.

Xi and Trump have both held talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently - Xi before the G20 summit during a trip to Pyongyang, and Trump after the summit, when he met Kim at the Demilitarised Zone along the North's border with South Korea.

During his meeting with Trump at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjeom on June 30, Kim did not make specific remarks about how to realize security guarantees promised to North Korea, according to the diplomatic sources.

Concern remains, however, that in seeking security guarantees, North Korea might in the future ask for a change in the configuration of USA military assets in the Asia-Pacific region, including troops stationed in South Korea, which could make nuclear talks more complicated.

The director said North Korea has "no other choice but to develop and test the special armaments to completely destroy the lethal weapons reinforced in South Korea".

"President Xi elaborated on China's principled position on the Peninsula issue during his meeting with President Trump in Osaka", Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular press briefing in the Chinese capital. Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said on Tuesday "the contacts and the discussions are ongoing" with North Korea but offered no details. There has been no sign of a narrowing of differences since.

"You have a man that when I came into office all he was doing before under [former President Barack] Obama was testing nuclear weapons and blowing up mountains and now he's not doing it", the president said.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump said that Kim "was so happy to see me" during his hastily-arranged visit to the demilitarized zone with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The paper blamed USA working-level negotiators for the summit breakdown and emphasized that they should come forward with the right method with the right attitude in light of the changed mood demonstrated by their leader's recent handshake, to which the North will take corresponding goodwill steps. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

The State Department said this week Washington hoped to see a complete freeze in the North Korean nuclear program as the start of a process of denuclearization.
