"We are impacted by an issue with one of our telecommunication providers that are affecting some of our services". They have advised customers that they can still use NetBank and the CommBank app as usual.

"Westpac Group is aware of a number of banking services which are now non-operational due to a broader telecommunications failure in the region".

"We are now investigating an issue affecting services, including EFTPOS and access to ATMS, for a number of enterprise customers nationally", a Telstra spokesman said.

"The cause of the problem is under urgent investigation", she said.

The Commonwealth bank has also acknowledged the issues on Twitter. There are also issues for customers logging on to its CommSec site.

Westpac said some Sydney machines and branches were "non-operational", but customers on Facebook claimed they were experiencing issues in Melbourne and Brisbane also.

"Most customer services have now been restored, and we're working with our customers on the remaining few", a Telstra spokesman said on Thursday night. Many of our services are starting to restore. "There is no need to call us if you are experiencing problems with these services". Online banking is working normally. We're sorry for the impact and inconvenience caused.

Australia Post has also confirmed that Eftpos and other banking services are now disrupted, blaming a "supplier issue". We are continuing to monitor all services as this happens.

Business Insider Australia has contacted the bank for more information.

An ANZ spokesperson has confirmed it is also experiencing outages, suggesting the problem might be "telco-related", while a NAB spokesperson confirmed "sporadic outages" relating to Eftpos but not ATM services in New South Wales and Queensland.

"We apologise to our customers affected by this. Rest assured we are urgently looking into this and will have further updates soon", the company wrote on Twitter.
