Prime Day Preview: New MacBook Air Just $999

The teardown also reveals that the MacBook Pro comes with a slightly larger battery than the outgoing model.

In Australia, pricing for the new Apple MacBook Air starts at AU$1,699 or AU$1,549 for university students. Check out Apple's complete announcement for more data. But, given the recent upgrade to the Macbook Air, there were questions over how necessary it really was.

So, if you are in the market for a new laptop, here's all the latest updates and how these new Macs compare.

To go along with its stunning screen, the new MacBook Air also has improved sound, with more bass and louder volume than previous models.

Apart from updates on the upcoming macOS Catalina, Apple has just announced several major changes to its MacBook lines in time for its "back-to-school" season.

This laptop now gets the 8th-generation quad-core processor making it much more powerful and there's the inclusion of the interactive Touch Bar which changes depending what software you are using.

Of course, it's possible to upgrade this to an 8th-generation 1.7GHz quad-core Core i7 processor, which would further increase the performance of the device, though the Geekbench scores suggest that most users would be happy with the standard variant.

Apple will also throw wireless headphones into a collection of BeatsStudio3 at no extra price.

WHAT'S NOW MISSING?: Apple has now completely streamlined its MacBook range with the older MacBook Air now removed from sale. Its starting price is at $1,099 down from $1,199, and discounted to just $999 for students via Apple's education store.

Apple continued its trend of quietly updating its laptop lineup this week, releasing a few hardware updates for its MacBookPro and MacBook Air computers, while killing off the last of the non-touchbar MacBook Pro options.
