Andy Murray and Serena Williams will play together in the mixed doubles draw at Wimbledon."This should be fun Andy Murray & Serena Williams are confirmed to play mixed doubles at #Wimbledon", Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tweeted. It's always hard to tell as you only have mixed doubles at the Grand Slams, so nobody really get a chance to specialise in it or play it a lot. "In those situations I always wanted Jamie to win because he was the older one, like it was the natural order of things, and he is easier to handle".

She then added: "If you guys really want it. all right, done".

The pair will take on Germany's Andreas Mies and Alexa Guarachi of Chile when the competition starts Thursday.

Azarenka had also thought she was in with a shout of partnering Murray since she had gone all the way to the final with his elder brother Jamie past year.

The deadline for signing up for mixed doubles at the tournament is Wednesday morning.

That went down like lukewarm punch with Richard Lewis, the chief executive of the All England Club, but he is a forward-thinker always open to persuasion - especially if the nation's best-ever player is talking.

"And I don't care if I really like something and someone thinks it is bad, it doesn't matter, That's the beauty of art - you like what you like and see it differently to other people".

"I never thought this would happen".

"I think Venus and Serena have won four each", he said. She's had some really good, strong matches in the past few months.

Murray, meanwhile, last played mixed doubles at an official event in Rio with Heather Watson, and at Wimbledon, it was in 2006 with Kirsten Flipkens.

The former world number one is already paired with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert as he continues his comeback from hip surgery.
