Twitter Suffers Widespread Hour-Long Outage on Mobile Apps, Web

Social Media platforms have been having a rough summer, and now the one place to go and complain about your chosen platform being down, Twitter, is having issues.

UPDATE: Twitter has identified to the source of the outage, saying it was due to an internal configuration change, which it's working to fix.

According to website DownDetector.com, Twitter began experiencing issues around 2:46 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The monitoring website DownDetector showed a series of outage reports starting at 1846 GMT, concentrated in Europe, North America and Japan.

"We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter and we'll keep you updated on what's happening via our status page", Lindsay McCallum, a Twitter spokesperson, told Digital Trends. However, some users can still tweet which indicates that the outage is not worldwide.

Last week when Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down, Twitter was briefly hit too, affecting users worldwide. The microblogging platform confirmed the service disruption on Thursday but has yet to provide more detailed information.

It comes as Reddit experienced similar issues this morning into the afternoon, leaving users unable to access the site or load any posts.
