Jeffrey Epstein's Cause of Death Revealed

Several of Epstein's alleged victims have not waited to seek damages in lawsuits against his estate.

- A medical examiner has ruled that Jeffrey Epstein's death was a suicide.

Mr Epstein, 66, was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in New York City on August 10, sparking outrage and disbelief over how such a high-profile prisoner, known for socialising with powerful people including United States presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, could have gone unwatched. "It is indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocols".

He directed the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice to investigate "serious irregularities" at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan. According to the New York Times, which reported the release of the medical examiner's report earlier Friday afternoon, he secured a bedsheet to the top of a set of bunk beds and then dropped toward the floor with enough force to break a number of bones in his neck.

Two weeks before Epstein died, he was found lying in the fetal position in his cell, with marks on his neck, NBC 4 reported at the time.

Two guards who were allegedly assigned to watch Epstein have now been placed on leave and the prison warden has been temporarily reassigned. They shared a cell.

The results of Jeffrey Epstein's autopsy found the wealthy financier and accused sex trafficker committed suicide by hanging in his Manhattan jail cell.

Epstein was arrested in July on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges relating to the alleged abuse of hundreds of young girls.

Reports had surfaced this week that the guards who were assigned to Epstein's cell were working "extreme overnight shifts" to make up for staffing shortages the morning of his apparent suicide.

Guards are supposed to check on detainees in the special housing unit every 30 minutes, a source with knowledge of Epstein's time at the prison previously told CNN.

He was found dead August 10.

The AP often does not report details of suicide methods but has made an exception because Epstein's cause of death is pertinent to the ongoing investigations.

The statement was conveyed by Aja Worthy-Davis, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office. One person familiar with the matter said both employees had volunteered.

Attorney General William Barr said officials have uncovered "serious irregularities" at the jail, which has housed other high-profile detainees such as Mexican drug baron El Chapo and fraudster Bernie Madoff. The FBI and the Justice Department's inspector general are investigating.
