Nadal into semis in Montreal as Zverev, Thiem crash out

Nadal will now lock horns with Italy's Fabio Fognini for a place in the semi-final of the match.

MONTREAL, Aug 10 ― Rafael Nadal took a set to get started yesterday before overhauling Fabio Fognini 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the ATP Montreal Masters.

The defending champion eased to a 6-3 6-4 victory over Pella for his 379th win at ATP Masters 1000 level, going past Federer's tally of 378.

"It's never easy to play a good friend, especially from the same country", Khachanov said. When we play on outdoor courts, that's part of the game too.

The victor past year in Toronto for his fourth title in the event, Nadal won his 379th ATP Masters 1000 match to break a tie with Roger Federer for the record. "Of course it is better to play without this kind of wind.At the same time, it is attractive to play under tough conditions because then the player who has different options to play has better chances to survive these kind of days", the Association for Tennis Professionals (ATP) quoted Nadal as saying.

Medvedev claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Chile's Cristian Garín in the round of 16.

In the other quarter-final, Gael Monfils will play Roberto Bautista Agut after they defeated Hubert Hurkacz and Richard Gasquet respectively in straight sets.

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, celebrating his 19th birthday, were in action later Thursday. Raphael Nadal won 2-0.

The all-time WTA great is an icon for Osaka; however, the 21-year-old had won their only two prior meetings - including an incredible US Open final in which Williams repeatedly ranted at the officials.

Next up for fourth seed Halep, who won her second Grand Slam crown at Wimbledon last month, is Czech Republic's Marie Bouzková, a 6-2, 6-2 victor over Latvia's Jeļena Ostapenko.

Competition in both Montreal and Toronto is due to continue tomorrow.
