German premium carmaker Porsche has released the 2020 Cayenne coupe and SUV onto the Australian market, with the promise of unprecedented power due to a new plug-in hybrid electric powertrain. The Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne Turbo Coupe produce just 541hp. Output is sent through the ceiling, putting down a meaty 670 hp and 663 lb. -ft.

Porsche starts out with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, itself hardly a weedy engine.

In terms of performance, the crossovers can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 183 miles per hour (295 km/h).

Porsche has introduced a high-performance plug-in hybrid version of the Cayenne as it continues to expand its portfolio of electrified models.

Auto and Driver The range-topping model for the all-new 2019 Cayenne SUV, the 541-hp Turbo merely opens the door for even more outrageous variants in the pipeline. In addition to the two top models, the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé now complements the series.

Porsche has taken the wraps off its new Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, positioning it as the most powerful variant in the third-generation Cayenne range. It's backed up by an electric motor that develops an additional 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS). Both top-spec models are driven by the eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and get Porsche Traction Management (PTM) as standard. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid can drive at speeds of up to 135 km/h purely electrically, and with the combustion engine the top speed rises to 295 km/h. These drive modes can be selected using a rotary switch on the steering wheel, thanks to the standard-fit Sport Chrono Package. 0-60 miles per hour comes in 4.7 seconds and top speed is 157 miles per hour, and the Sport Chrono Package comes fitted as standard.

Electric power can be used to propel the vehicle on its own in E-Power mode at speeds of up 135 km/h, or used to assist the engine in the Hybrid Auto, Sport and Sport plus modes. Other performance features like the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and Sport Chrono Package also come as standard, factory-fitted equipment on these. Eight-way power sport seats, a fixed glass panoramic roof and 20-inch alloy wheels are standard with the fashion-forward variant, which also features a pair of slightly lower seats in the second row on account of its sloped roof.
