Serena Williams takes revenge on Osaka in Toronto

All-time Grand Slam Winner, Serena Williams has finally defeated Naomi Osaka after meeting for the third time.

Williams moved into her 96th WTA Tour final and fifth at the Rogers Cup, where she is a three-time champion and will face Bianca Andreescu in the decider in Toronto.

That set the stage for Williams, a 37-year-old American who will try for a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title at the upcoming US Open, to again face Osaka after the controversial finish to their Grand Slam showdown last year in NY.

Playing her idol once again, Osaka underwent the same sensations when she played her for the first time in Miami, Florida. "I'm just overall a little bit better", Williams said.

"I've been through so much the past two months, and all I can say is I'm so happy to be back on court", an emotional Andreescu said on-court. "I know that sounds kind of weird, but, you know, if there's anyone in the world that I would want to lose to - of course, I would never want to lose, but I don't mind losing to her because I learned a lot", she mentioned.

"And today I felt it more, so that's why I made a decision to retire", said Halep, no doubt exercising extra caution with the final Grand Slam of the year due to start on August 26.

Bouzkova's week included wins over 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens, former French Open victor Jelena Ostapenko and a clash with Wimbledon champion Simona Halep, who retired hurt after dropping the first set of their quarter-final.

"Yeah, I mean, mentally, I mean, for me it's always fun to play her. So this is such a big learning experience for me".

"I just wanted to do the best I could today". "I show no mercy no matter who I play, and I think that's showing a lot", said Andreescu.

Osaka referred to Williams as her tennis mum in the build-up to the match. "I think I played pretty well".

"But, yeah, I'm not really mad at this".

Up next in her bid for a first title since returning to competition in 2018 after the birth of her daughter will be Canadian 19-year-old Andreescu, who beat American Sofia Kenin 6-4 7-6 (5) in the other semi-final.

The Czech Marie Bouzkova, 91st World and qualifying, will be his opponent in Saturday's half: it has benefited from the abandonment after a set of the Romanian, ex-N.1 world, Simona Halep, embarrassed to a tendon d 'Achilles.
