Tesla Model 3 hits parked truck and catches fire

Tesla Model 3 hits parked truck and catches fire

Reportedly cruising at the speed limit (62 mph), the 41-year-old financial market expert and his two children suffered minor injuries: he broke his leg, while the kids were bruised.

The Moscow crash comes on the heels of other accidents involving Tesla vehicles on Autopilot crashing into stationary cars on the road, Fox Business reported.

Preliminary reports from law enforcement sources claimed the Tesla was "probably driving on Autopilot and couldn't recognize the tow truck in front of it, after which it caught fire".

Allegedly, the vehicle was cruising in the left lane with the Autopilot turned on.

Meanwhile, Russian media outlet Zvezda reported that the police believed the Tesla Model 3 to be on Autopilot at the time of the accident.

Autopilot isn't the only problem Tesla vehicles have faced.

However, Tesla have said drivers should keep their hands on the wheel in case of emergencies.

A similar incident in 2016 was also attributed to an overreliance on Tesla's semi-autonomous driving software.

Tretyakov said was driving at around 100 km (62 miles) per hour - the speed limit - when the auto crashed on its left side into the stationary tow truck that he had not noticed.

It was not immediately clear what type of Tesla the driver was operating.

Tesla noted in its quarterly safety report that there was a Tesla vehicle fire for every 170 million miles traveled between 2012 and 2018 compared to a vehicle fire for every 19 million miles traveled in the U.S. The lawsuit was filed in Northern California federal court and claimed fraud and sought class-action status for the possibly thousands of Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X owners all over the world who have experienced that the range of their older batteries unexpectedly curtailed by as much as 64 km or 40 miles. "In order to avoid misinterpretation of these numbers and provide a meaningful comparison to industry data, Tesla will publish an update to vehicle fire data annually".
