WhatsApp close to adding fingerprint locking feature to Android app

WhatsApp close to adding fingerprint locking feature to Android app

WhatsApp also lets you choose from the locking interval, though the time interval options available feel a bit restrictive; we're sure the service will consider more options in the future.

This new feature will help users in adding a layer of protection to their chats.

The fingerprint unlock feature has been available on iOS for while now but Android users will need to wait as the feature is currently available just for the beta users. Keep in mind though that you will still be able to reply to messages directly from notifications, as well as answer WhatsApp calls since the app will only ask you for authentication when you want to open WhatsApp. Thankfully, WhatsApp has realized the users do want a Screen Lock solution, perhaps even more than Dark Mode, as the service is now testing out Fingerprint Unlock feature in its latest Android beta. After updating, users can enable the new Fingerprint lock feature by sliding to WhatsApp Settings~Account~Privacy~Fingerprint Unlock~toggle on/off.

Moreover, the new Fingerprint lock works in the same conventional way of your phone's fingerprint unlock feature.

The social messaging app now allows users to choose when they have to authenticate their identity in order to use the app. The iOS version of the feature also has a 15-minute option, which has not been made available on Android. However, the company went ahead with Fingerprint Lock nomenclature ensuring no confusion in terms of name.

The new Fingerprint Lock feature on WhatsApp is offered with three options - "immediately", "After 1 minute" and "After 30 minutes".

According to Forbes. WhatsApp is also working on a payments feature that will be tested in India first because the country is a huge market for the app and then it would be launched in several other countries.

If you are not on the latest version of beta app, which is 2.19.221 then you need to update the same by heading to Google's Play Store.
