Xiaomi 64MP camera tech unveiled, debuting with a Redmi phone

It is powered by Samsung's ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor with support for Tetracell and 3D HDR technology for shooting in low-light environment.

This is the 108MP (108000000 pixels) CIS customized by Samsung Semiconductor for Xiaomi.

A 108MP ultra HD camera with 2x zoom can still maintain a image clarity comparable to a 27MP lens.

"The GW1 features smart ISO supported by Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) technology which intelligently adjusts the ISO sensitivity based on ambient light intensity".

The Chinese manufacturer has announced that it'll be the first smartphone company in the work to bring 108MP camera into Xiaomi smartphone.

For recording video, Samsung's Isocell Bright HMX can shoot up to 6K resolution at 30 frames per second, where the highest video resolution that smartphone cameras have been able to shoot is 4K at 60 frames per second. The South Korean tech giant has also reportedly outsourced some of its Chinese production to Wintech, a longtime Xiaomi supplier.

There's also news regarding Redmi launching a smartphone with a 64-megapixel camera, which may be launched this week.

"Samsung is continuously pushing for innovations in pixel and logic technologies to engineer our ISOCELL image sensors to capture the world as close to how our eyes perceive them", said Yongin Park, executive vice president of sensor business at Samsung Electronics. The race of "Excellent Camera with good smartphone feature" is on now. There are speculations of the new smartphone being named the Realme 5 (the predecessor of this is now called Realme 3) as Chinese consider the number four inauspicious.

The briefing today is an apparent move to steal the thunder from its rival Oppo, which is set to launch its first smartphone with a 64-megapixel camera tomorrow.
