Ahoy! Greta Thunberg arrives in NY

Upon arrival, the sailboat was met by Torqeedo-powered electric boats to escort the sailboat to its final berth in Manhattan. Taking turns steering the 18-metre racing yacht were yachtsman Boris Herrmann and Pierre Casiraghi, the grandson of Monaco's late Prince Rainier and American actress Grace Kelly.

The teenager has since become a figurehead for climate action with her stark warnings of catastrophe if the world does not act now to cut carbon emissions and curb global warming.

Unprecedented pressure exerted by young activists will push world leaders to address the unfolding climate crisis, even with a recalcitrant USA under Donald Trump, Greta Thunberg has told the Guardian.

The United Nations sent a flotilla of 17 sailboats, one for each of their sustainable development goals for 2030, to meet her for the last short leg of her journey.

Thunberg endured rough seas and cramped conditions but said she never felt seasick once.

"My message for him is listen to the science and he obviously doesn't do that", she said. There is no toilet or fixed shower aboard, no windows below deck and only a small gas cooker to heat up freeze-dried food.

Amid a rising sun and pale yellow clouds, her boat floated near NY, in a picture she posted to Twitter on Wednesday morning.

She is scheduled to join the U.N. Climate Action Summit on September 23 and a rally with similarly concerned young people in the United States.

The 16-year-old was photographed waving at journalists and well-wishers as she neared the end of her 3,000-nautical-mile (5,550 kilometers) trip.

Her weekly "Friday for the Future" protests gained traction with other teens, inspiring other student strikes in about 100 cities across the world.

Yesterday earlier than daybreak, Greta tweeted: "Land!"

The manager of the team clarified in return that Thunberg's journey is carbon neutral because the flights will be offset.

"He had to, because I had made up my mind I was going to go and he has to take care of me", she said, standing on a swaying dock by the yacht.

She travelled to the USA in order to attend two climate change summits taking place in the coming months. Thunberg's father Svante Thunberg and filmmaker Nathan Grossman are also on board.

Thunberg added that she planned to rest before joining youngsters striking outside the United Nations on Friday.

After reaching the shore Wednesday, Thunberg detailed the journey and reiterated her issues concerning the surroundings.
