Apple unveils iPhone 11

Along with the iPhone Pro and and Pro Max, Apple just officially announced a more budget-friendly 2019 device - the iPhone 11.

As device sales have fallen in recent years, Apple has placed more of an emphasis on new services such as Apple TV+, the company's answer to streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.

Apple's stock price rose 1.1 per cent after the announcements to US$216.7 per share.

Apple's promised streaming television service - dubbed TV+ - will launch internationally on November 1.

Apple claims that the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max cameras have the highest quality video ever in a smartphone. According to Drance, the iPhone 11 comes in 6 colours and adds more festures for photo-lovers. A Strategy Analytics study shows that consumers are growing less tolerant of premium-priced phones: Smartphone owners now keep their phones for an average of 33 months, up from 27.5 months in 2018. The lack of 5G may also hurt Apple's outlook in the country, where nearly all of the major smartphone makers have launched or will soon launch their own 5G models.

The extra camera on the new iPhone 11 models – a second cam on the base 11, a third on the Pros – are the highlight feature of the 2019 compared to the XR and XS from a year ago, but the forecast is that they wont reverse the shrinking market share.

It will start at a price of 64,900 rupees - which is not drastically higher than what the iPhone XR now sells for. "I don't believe customers will buy more iPhones now because the new models sport more cameras, it will not move the needle much for them", said Navkendar Singh, research director at IDC India.

Apple launched the new-generation iPhone with much fanfare a few hours ago, and one of the upgrades coming to select models concerns the charger that is included in the box. But not this year.

Here's everything you need to know about the latest iPhones.

Creative Strategies principal analyst Tim Bajarin says Apple got a good deal from its suppliers on phone components this year, which may have given the company the breathing room necessary to avoid raising unit prices. The parts savings might also pay for the tariffs imposed on its Chinese-produced smartwatches and computers by the Trump Administration, Bajarin said. But Apple has attempted to pump up the value proposition of its latest phones for a lower or similar price point.

With iPhone sales declining year over year for the past two fiscal quarters, investors are focusing on the growth potential for services.
