Considering Ban On Flavored Vaping Products, Says Donald Trump

The move to ban flavored e-cigarettes comes as six people have died nationwide and hundreds of others have fallen ill with mysterious lung diseases from vaping.

The surprise White House announcement could shake up the multibillion-dollar vaping industry, which has been driven by sales of flavoured nicotine formulas.

"The Trump administration is making it clear that we intend to clear the market of flavored e-cigarettes to reverse the deeply concerning epidemic of youth e-cigarette use that is impacting children, families, schools and communities", says Azar.

"We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth", Azar said, echoing a Monday tweet by First Lady Melania Trump. "We can't allow people to get sick and we can't have our youth be so affected", he said.

We must act swiftly against flavored e-cigarette products that are especially attractive to children.

No single device, ingredient or additive has been identified, though many cases involve marijuana vaping. "I don't like vaping", Trump said of Barron, 13. A recent increase in underage vaping is among the reasons for the ban, pending an FDA examination of the health effects, Azar said.

With more teens than ever now vaping, it seems like the younger folks who are more at risk. It's really not wonderful, that's one thing we can say definitely.

The CDC has said anyone who uses a vape device should consider stopping while public-health officials investigate the cause of the condition.

Azar then said that new data from the National Youth Tobacco survey shows "a continued surging" in e-cigarette use among teens and that young users are specifically drawn to the many flavors now on the market, like mint and candy.

Azar said the FDA would issue guidance in coming weeks meant to clamp down on the sale of nearly all flavored vaping products.

A ban on flavors would be a huge blow to companies like San Francisco-based Juul, which sells mint, fruit and dessert flavored-nicotine pods. The public-health agency said on Friday that the lung-injury cases were appearing most often in people who used vaping products containing THC. MO has purchased a 35% stake for $12.5 million in Juul Labs.

"We will fully comply with the final FDA policy when effective", he stated. The group represents vaping manufacturers, retailers and distributors.

Vapes changed the market when it first came out, but people didn't know too much about the e-cigarette phenomenon when it first hit the shelves.

According to the HHS, the Food and Drug Administration is now drafting a policy that will target electronic cigarettes that are not tobacco-flavored and that lack premarket authorization.

Most experts agree the aerosol from e-cigarettes is less harmful than cigarette smoke since it doesn't contain most of the cancer-causing byproducts of burning tobacco. The agency began policing cigarettes then, but it didn't add e-cigarettes to its portfolio until 2016.
