Former American Idol contestant Haley Smith, 26, dies in motorcycle crash

E! News can confirm Haley Smith passed away over the Labor Day weekend after a tragic motorcycle crash.

The single-vehicle accident took place in the town of Millinocket at 2 a.m. on Saturday, the Millinocket Police Department confirms to PEOPLE. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. "A female operating a motorcycle crashed on Medway Road in Millinocket, which resulted in her death". "It would appear initially that she failed to negotiate a sharp turn and crashed", the department told PEOPLE, adding that an investigation is pending.

She was known for wowing the American Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson with her folk twist on Rufus and Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good".

Revisit Smith's "American Idol" audition below. Just 18 at the time and working in a restaurant, she dreamed of being a singer. She gained rave opinions for making the music her personal and having a just right voice and it gave her the price ticket to Hollywood, however she didn't make it past the second one spherical.

Her dad, Mike Smith, told TMZ the family does not believe she lost control of her bike. "I love your voice so much". Her circle of relatives instructed TMZ that they have been having a look ahead to celebrating the birthday along with her.
