Israel attacks Gaza targets following drone raid

Israel attacks Gaza targets following drone raid

The IDF said it opened fire at the cell responsible for the drone. "Hamas and Islamic Jihad are hastening their own end when they join Iran and [commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force Qasem] Soleimani, and transform themselves into an Iranian tool".

Two Palestinian teenagers have been killed by Israeli gunfire during a protest along the Israel-Gaza border fence.

Israeli war jets had carried out a series of airstrikes on Islamic Hamas movement's military facilities in northern and central Gaza Strip in response to a drone attack into Israel, causing no injuries.

An armed drone launched from Gaza dropped an explosive on an IDF vehicle earlier today.

Tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians near the Gaza border have been mounting for months.

The overnight raid comes after PM Benjamin Netanyahu - who is aggressively campaigning for re-election after his failure to secure a coalition government - vowed a "vigorous response" to Hamas. "Any attempt to harm our citizens and our soldiers will be met with a forceful response", Netanyahu declared in a statement on Saturday, according to Times of Israel.

On Friday, two Palestinian teenagers were killed by Israeli fire during clashes on the Gaza border, while another 46 sustained bullet wounds, according to Gaza's health ministry.

The Hamas-run health ministry identified one of those killed as 17-year-old Ali al-Ashqar.

But in a statement, it said an estimated 6,200 "rioters and demonstrators" had gathered in locations along the border and thrown "fire bombs and explosive devices" at troops, as well as approaching the fence.

Israeli forces declined to comment on the deaths.

Since the outbreak of protests on the Gaza border previous year, Israel has intermittently taken a number of steps to stem outbreaks of violence from the coastal territory, such as closing border crossings, cutting fuel shipments, and reducing the permitted fishing area off the coast of the Strip.

Hamas says Israel doesn't honor the agreement.
