ISRO completes de-oribital operation of moon lander Vikram

Using the onboard propulsion system for 4 seconds the operation was carried out successfully.

The lunar orbiter-lander now has an orbit of 104 km x 128 km.

The landing module of India's unmanned moon mission separated successfully from the orbiter on Monday in the run-up to its planned touchdown on the moon's south polar region this weekend, the country's space agency said. The next de-orbiting maneuver is scheduled on September 04, 2019 between 0330 - 0430 hrs IST.

The Pragyan rover is a 6-wheeled and AI-powered vehicle.

The final manoeuvre of Chandrayaan 2 happened on Sunday evening.

According to ISRO, the health of both the modules is being monitored from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru.

The Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter, which has a mission life of one year, continues to go around the Moon in its existing orbit. ISRO chairman Dr K Sivan has noted that the parameters of the orbiter, lander, rover are in good condition.

Chandrayaan-2 managed to successfully enter the Moon's orbit on the morning of August 20 and ISRO had later released a statement confirming the Lunar Orbit Insertion of Chandrayaan-2 at 9.02 am.

It will strive India's first moon landing on a moderately flat floor on Saturday to check in the past found out water deposits.

Chandrayaan-2, which has been developed by the ISRO, was scheduled to be launched on July 15; however, the launch had to be called off due to a technical snag. Meanwhile, on 3 September, ISRO will conduct a test with the lander, stopping it completely and driving it in the opposite direction for three seconds and then moving it back to its class. It would pave way for its soft-landing near the lunar South Pole on 7th of September.

The module has reached a distance of about 100km from the moon's floor, the gap company mentioned.
