Los Angeles man charged with selling rapper Mac Miller drugs before overdose

According to the criminal complaint, Pettit provided McCormick with pain reliever oxycodone, cocaine and the sedative Xanax in the early hours of September 5, 2018.

Miller had asked to be outfitted with "percs", an abbreviation for Percocet, a prescribed painkiller that contains oxycodone, prosecutors said.

Pettit has only been charged with providing the drugs, however, and not with having a direct role in Miller's death. Prosecutors also say that Pettit gave Miller the counterfeit pills two days earlier, and they contained fentanyl, cocaine and Xanax.

At the time of his death, his family released a statement that read: "Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26".

The Drug Enforcement Administration arrested a Hollywood Hills resident Wednesday morning in connection with the fatal overdose of rapper Mac Miller past year.

Pettit was arrested on Wednesday morning by DEA agents and officers from the LAPD.

The 26-year-old Miller, who was known to many as Ariana Grande's ex-boyfriend but was a respected rapper in his own right, was found dead by his assistant at his San Fernando Valley home on September 7, 2018. Pettit was going to deliver the order to Miller who claimed he was at Conway Recording Studios.

Miller died from an accidental overdose caused by a combination of cocaine, alcohol, and the powerful opioid fentanyl, according to coroner's report released in November 2018.

According to the Center for Disease Control, Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin.

When asked in another text how he was doing, Pettit allegedly wrote, "I am not great". Most likely I will die in jail", before adding, "I'm gonna get off the grid.

According to the court documents acquired by TMZ, shortly after Mac's death, Cameron messaged his friends on Instagram that he wasn't going to post anything about it "just to be smart".

If convicted on the drug trafficking charge, Pettit would face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
