Slow-moving Hurricane Dorian heads toward southeast U.S.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has published a video filmed from the International Space Station, showing Hurricane Dorian moving closer towards the eastern coast of Florida.

The photo, posted on Twitter by US Air Force Lieutenant Garrett Black, shows perfectly blue sky and sun shining through a ideal ring of white cloud.

Hurricane Dorian battered the Bahamas with ferocious wind and rain, the monstrous Category 5 storm wrecking towns and homes as it churned on an uncertain path toward the U.S. coast where hundreds of thousands were ordered to evacuate.

But Trump, after a briefing at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, asked everyone in Dorian's path to pay close attention to the unsafe storm, and to heed all warnings and evacuation orders.

Hurricane Dorian, now a Category 5 storm, is being called the strongest hurricane in modern records for the northwestern Bahamas and is expected to bring "catastrophic" conditions to the Abaco Islands.

With maximum sustained winds of 295 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 354 kilometers per hour, Dorian is among the strongest storms ever recorded in the Atlantic. More than 600 Labor Day flights in the US had been canceled as of Sunday afternoon, many of them in Florida as Dorian barreled toward the state's coast. It was the first time a Category 5 storm has hit the Bahamas since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

There is no way Dorian will hit Alabama and the National Weather Service Birmingham (NWS Birmingham) was so alarmed by Trump's fake news it was forced to swiftly tweet a rebuttal of its own only one hour later. Currently, hurricane-force winds extend 45 miles (75 km) from the hurricane's center. Watch for sudden tropical downpours over the next couple days.

NHC has issued storm warnings for several areas along Florida's east coast. Twelve counties in Georgia are also in a state of emergency.

The Palm Beach and Martin county evacuations began at 1 p.m. Sunday, and the Brevard and St. Lucie county evacuations are set to start Monday morning.

Florida residents, meanwhile, were bracing for a potentially risky brush with the storm as it slowly turns north after passing the Bahamas.

In October, two months later, Hurricane Michael became the third Category five storm to hit the US under Trump's presidency as it fell on the Florida Panhandle.

Hurricane center forecasters predict 4-7 feet of storm surge from Jupiter Inlet to the Brevard/Volusia county line, and 2-4 feet from north of Deerfield Beach to Jupiter Inlet.

Coastal areas could get 3 to 6 inches of rain, with 10 inches in some places.

Coastal flood advisory through the weekend for potential minor flooding during high tides.
