Todd Phillips: JOKER is a Standalone Film (Duh!)

While nothing has been officially confirmed, recent rumors suggest the movie will be a noir story following Batman's crime-solving skills as the world's greatest detective.

Directed by Todd Phillips and co-written with Scott Silver, the American psychological thriller follows Fleck around Gotham City as he embarks on an unmerciful attack against humanity, transforming himself into a violent criminal with an unusual trademark. This is what he had to say about how people will feel about the character's journey and more.

Diehard fans of the Joker's original comics might be asking why Phillips is going with "Arthur Fleck" when the Joker already has a real name.

Eventually, Phoenix had to lose 52 pounds for the part. "I don't know who's really giving me this award, who's responsible for this or why", he told the crowd. "As it turns out, that impacts your psychology, and you really start to go mad when you lose that much weight in that amount of time".

In an emotional speech, he said River helped him rediscover his love of acting after early experiences as a child actor left him disillusioned. "There's also a book about political assassins that I thought was interesting, and breaks down the different types of personalities that do those sorts of things [I do in the film]". It was designed from the ground up to be a self-contained, one-off Joker movie, not the beginning of a new Joker within the DCU.

Batman's traditional nemesis has been famously played by the likes of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, but the "Gladiator" star's interpretation is arguably the most radical yet. "It just felt like something that was our creation in some ways".

De Niro said he "understood all the connections" but had signed up for the project because of director Phillips.

As if that were not enough, this breakthrough already let us see the great load of violence that the feature film will have, so we could say that this will be a rather crude, risky and murky project, three elements that are already embodied in the upset Joker's mind. He stalks a woman (Zazie Beetz), or maybe he doesn't.

Reeves had previously revealed that the new Batman movie will feature a younger Batman and it will not be based on "any particular [comic book]", reports. "But in the long run, I think he got it and appreciated it". "Of course, there's a lot of culture of that right now". Joaquin is the fiercest and brightest and most open-minded lion I know.
