Former 'Today Show' host Matt Lauer raped colleague

Former 'Today Show' host Matt Lauer raped colleague

Ronan Farrow is revealing more unsettling allegations against Matt Lauer in his new book Catch and Kill - and this time, he's not sparing any details.

The major allegation in it is from former NBC News employee Brooke Nevils, who accuses Lauer of raping her at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Once they returned to New York, Nevils and Lauer had more sexual encounters.

Once her encounters with Lauer had come to an end, Nevils reported what had happened to "like a million people", with no response until after the allegations surrounding fallen movie mogul Harvey Weinstein prompted her former Today colleagues to ask her what exactly had happened with the anchor.

Nevils did not immediately return a request for comment from The Post on Wednesday.

The Missouri native and 2007 Johns Hopkins University grad, who double-majored in political science and writing seminars, began as a page on the "Today show - where she said she was once assigned such tasks as finding actor Robert De Niro's lost wallet". But after the newest allegation, Lauer wrote: "My silence has been a mistake". Brooke did not do or say anything to object.

Guthrie and Kotb were emotional as they addressed the report Wednesday. In the lengthy statement, Lauer emphatically denies the allegation, which he said is "categorically false, ignores the facts, and defies common sense". Nevils maintains this specific encounter was nonconsensual as she was both too drunk to consent and repeatedly told him she did not want to have anal sex. "It was completely transactional".

"The network proposed a script she would have to read, suggesting that she had left to pursue other endeavors, that she was treated well, and that NBC News was a positive example of sexual harassment", Farrow writes. It was her complaint that led to Lauer's firing in November 2017. Nevils said she had six shots of vodka. She told him yes, and later claimed that "she bled for days", Farrow continued.

"She says she felt pressure to continue the affair because I had control over her career, but she did not work for me, the Today Show, or NBC News", Lauer writes. She certainly did not cry.

"My client and I met with representatives from NBC's Human Resources and Legal Department at 6pm on Monday", Nevils' attorney Ari Wilkenfeld said at the time.

Once in the hotel room, Nevils alleges Lauer, who was wearing a T-shirt and boxer shorts, pushed her against the door and kissed her, before pushing her onto the bed, "flipping her over (and) asking if she liked anal sex". That's why he was sacked within 24 hours of us first learning of the complaint.

Farrow also makes this point in his book, writing in 2017 that "NBC leadership and the press had deemed" her story "a consensual affair". "They're allegations of a crime".

According to Farrow, Nevils received a settlement worth "seven figures" when she left the network a year ago. "Our hearts break again for our colleague", NBC News said in a statement that was read on air.

Matt says that account is "categorically false" though, going on to explain that the episode was completely wanted and reciprocated on both sides. which carried over into what he describes as an "extramarital affair" back in NY.
