Len Wiseman Set To Direct Female-Centric ‘John Wick’ Spinoff ‘Ballerina’

"Ballerina" the female spinoff of the Hollywood blockbuster "John Wick" starring Keanu Reeves, is in the works with Len Wiseman on board as director. Details are still sparse, but in the latest film, New York City dancer Unity Phelan is in the credits as Ballerina. Shay Hatten, who wrote John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, has penned the screenplay, which finds a young female assassin seeking revenge on the people who killed her family.

This marks the second spin-off from the Keanu Reeves-led franchise - the first being the Starz television series The Continental - and it's on the fast track into production as Lionsgate looks to capitalize off of what a hot product John Wick has become.

Alongside Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski will be producing the movie with James Myers overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

John Wick 4 is set to be released on May 21 2021, after the success of the most recent film in the series, which had an enormous United States box office opening of $56.8 million (£44.6m), knocking Avengers: Endgame off the top spot.

The film will follow John Wick 4, which is set to hit cinemas in 2021. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has generated more than $323 million worldwide at the box office. I have no idea how much ballet experience Wiseman has, but he probably got the gig based on the fact that he was one of the guys behind the female-driven action franchise Underworld, which starred Kate Beckinsale as a gun-toting vampire. Wiseman also directed Live Free or Die Hard, a spirited continuation of Bruce Willis' Die Hard series. His recent work has seen him direct a number of episodes for different TV series including "Lucifer" and "Swamp Thing".
