'Onward' Trailer: Meet Pixar's Newest Road-Tripping Buddies

The film itself looked a little more honest and emotional when it was presented in longer form - these are two brothers who want to meet their dead father, after all - but the trailer does a pretty good idea of conveying the basic premise.

Onward will be a bit different from a lot of Pixar flicks, following characters set in an urban fantasy world rather than following characters in a world quite similar to ours. It will combine the mundane aspect of modern life with a story about growing up, dealing with loss, and discovering your place in the world, all while spoofing fantasy stories even as it sends us on a classic road trip and epic adventure. From the early teasers for Onward, we thought that the twist is that those brothers are a slacker and a nerd living in a suburban cul-de-sac who go on their quest to find their father in a beat-up van. A new poster has also been dropped for the film, and it adds the elf brothers' dad into the mix. The father's legs are outfitted with clothes so that in can walk around in disguise.

Tom Holland voices Ian Lightfoot, and Chris Pratt voices his brother Barney Lightfoot. Disney has finally debuted the first full-length trailer for Pixar's Onward, their next original project that's both written and directed by Dan Scanlon (of Monsters University before this). The film also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. The film opens in US theaters on March 6, 2020.
