Robert Downey Jr reacts to Martin Scorsese’s criticism of Marvel movies

Robert Downey Jr reacts to Martin Scorsese’s criticism of Marvel movies

Scorsese's comments sparked online debate, with several Marvel figures such as actor Robert Downey Jr and Joss Whedon offering an alternate view.

Stern seized the moment and repeatedly pushed Downey Jr.to fire back at Scorsese.

But then Downey seemed to backpedal a bit on the logic of the actual comment before diving a bit into how some may think that these movies are ruining the art form.

'Everybody's got an opinion, so I mean it's okay.

"I appreciate his opinion because I think, it's like anything, we need all of the different perspectives so we can come to centre and move on". "You know, Heaven Can Wait, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Goodbye Girl", Aniston added.

Ironically, Scorsese and Phillips will likely be battling one another in this year's awards-season race given the reviews both Irishman and Joker have mustered to date. He added, "Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well-made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks".

But I forget, it's a comic book movie - we shouldn't be applying high standards of characterization or motivation, though I've seen a few adaptations that don't do too bad (Ghost World; American Splendor; A History of Violence) and a few original works involving masked vigilantes that present reasonably rounded protagonists (Super). Later in his discussion, the actor likens Martin Scorsese's comments to saying that Howard Stern isn't radio, a statement that he says, makes no sense. "I've always had other interests".

Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese may as well have kicked the hornet's nest when he revealed his lowly opinions of Marvel Studios productions to Empire Magazine. Smith went on to say that he doesn't think Scorsese has "the same emotional attachment that a lot of us have".

That's when Stern suggested Scorsese, a noted film archivist, might indeed be jealous - and getting old. You know this. You are in therapy. I mean, we happen to, but everybody doesn't. "It's not going to stop anyone from making movies". Due to their respective successes and influence, the films have paved the way for studios to try and do the same for other groups in the future, with movies such as Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" having the green light for production.

Sure enough, it didn't take long for the Internet to rebuke Scorsese's comments, while some of Marvel's cast and crew - namely Karen Gillan and James Gunn - also voiced their support of all things Marvel.
